MiRx Protocol

MiRx Protocol – Headache and Migraine Treatment

Migraine-headacheMiRx Protocol targets a nerve cluster deep in the nasal cavity called the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG).  This nerve cluster has been known to control or reduce head pain since the early 1900’s. (Sluder 1908 )  The problem up until now has been accessing the SPG effectively and safely.

Recently, (2010) the FDA cleared a device called the Tx360 which is a the nasal applicator used as part of the MiRx Protocol.  This FDA cleared device has been medically engineered to accurately spray the SPG with a numbing medication thus stoping the nerve from sending pain signals to the brain.  It is so safe that it can be used on pregnant women, and so effective that many have reduced the number of migraine spells by 90%.  This is a major breakthrough in treating migraine and headache conditions.

MiRx: Two-Part Treatment

The protocol is in two parts, a medical component and a physical component.  The nerve and use of the Tx360 is the medical component that blocks the reaction of the nervous system and relieves the headache pain.  The second part treats and rehabilitates the underlying condition. This could include anything from physical therapy to chiropractic adjustments, corrective ergonomic recommendations,  diet modifications, or stress management therapy.  Combining these two parts can eliminate the conditions causing head pain, or lead us to a more detailed diagnosis that could be more serious.

Long-Term Relief

Relief from headache using MiRx can only remain long term if the entire protocol is followed.  Clinical tests recommend 4-6 weeks of treatments. One treatment can sometimes relieve a patient’s headache pain long-term.  However,  re-occurring headaches and migraine episodes are  much greater if the physiological conditions are ignored.  Patients that have experienced chronic migraines or headaches might need additional treatments.

The overall goal is to stop the pain and by reducing the reaction of the SPG nerve patients can focus more on the triggers that bring on these migraine and headache episodes.  Best of all most of our patients can throw away the prescription pain killers and anti-depressants and get back to feeling like them selves.
